About Us

We are an all-volunteer rescue and adoption group formed in 2002, to help homeless birds in the St. Louis metropolitan area.  We began our organization as Perfectly Precious Rescue & Adoption, Inc., but in July of 2008, we changed our name to the more descriptive and professional St. Louis Avian Rescue (STAR).  We are a 501(c)(3) charity, so all donations to our organization (under either name) are tax deductible.

Our Current Board

Our volunteers foster a variety of bird species, with the eventual goal of placement in forever homes.  We also strive to educate and instruct the public in not only the care of companion birds, but in the appreciation of wild birds as well.  We have volunteers who can speak to children and adults on a range of topics.  We attend community events to inform people about our mission and to show some of our available birds.  We regularly hold “Meet the Birds” events, where the public can learn more about us, our birds, and our mission.

You can review details of our adoption process by looking over our Adoption Process page.  You can also see some frequently asked questions by going to our FAQ page.
